So you’re a micro agency?

The answer, my friends, is, well, sort of. I prefer micro-agency. This may sound lofty and pretentious, but I can’t think of a better way, for now at least, to distinguish myself from contractors (I was one of these for several years), the full-blown agency type (I was one of these for several years too), and what I see as a typical freelancer.

Building apps for clients directly needs a whole array of skills:

  • requirements analysis
  • product ownership
  • project management
  • architecture
  • specification
  • estimating and costing
  • coding
  • testing
  • QA
  • technical support
  • incident management
  • stakeholder management
  • client success
  • account management

I do all this myself. There will be some things I don’t do, but if you need me to, I could hire the skills in for your project. It might be some UX consultancy, creative, photography, video, data crunching, user research etc. I’m hoping you can see the difference between this and a freelancer.

I work from home in Bristol doing the hours that I choose, building great apps for clients I like. And to be fair, if you’re a company or agency that is looking for a freelance flutter app developer I’d be more than happy to help you out as long as I retain this freedom. I’m probably choosy about the projects I take on, and I’m honest when something looks perhaps too big or risky for my micro-status. To me, this is my perfect job, having the time and space and freedom to create great things for happy clients. It’s something I almost did quite a few years ago were it not for the fact I was the sole bread winner with three young children and a mortgage to pay.

Things are different now, my life has changed and so has the software engineering landscape. I’m in a perfect position to take advantage of the mature, popular and awesome Flutter cross-platform framework, which feels light years ahead of anything before it. And then of course there’s my AI assistant (Copilot), which when building Flutter apps makes me seriously productive. I build quicker, I learn quicker and I overcome problems quicker.

If you need an app let’s have a chat and see if we’re a good fit. You can find me on LinkedIn or Bristol Creative Industries, or you can use the contact form on the Silicon Gorge Apps home page.
